63-Year-Old Surfer Dies In Onslow County Waters

An Onslow County surfer has died after what may have been a heart-related problem.

North Topsail Beach police say Michael Moore of Sneads Ferry was surfing alone Wednesday afternoon when they were called around 3:30 p.m.

Police say the 63-year-old man was surfing in the area of the Village of Stump Sound, off Highway 210.

The man was unresponsive when pulled from the surf. Fire and EMS workers attempted to revive him, but that was not successful.

Police say an autopsy says Moore likely had the medical problem that resulted in the drowning.
