Ammunition Falls From The Sky

That's what "accidentally" happened Wednesday afternoon in Onslow County. Onslow County Emergency Services and Homeland Security Department was advised by Marine Corps Helicopter Squadron HMMM261 that a helicopter returning to the base had accidentally dropped one belt of 50 caliber machine gun ammunition between Hunters Creek subdivision and Camp Lejeune. Meanwhile, Onslow County schools were notified to warn teachers and students that may be in the area where the ammunition dropped. It's a wide area of land making the ammunition fairly hard to find, according to Mark Goodman, director of Onslow County Emergency Management. Goodman says if anyone does come in contact with the ammo to leave it alone and call 911. Ground crews will be out in the woods Thursday morning, to search for the ammo.
