"Red Flag" Campaign Kicks Off

A campaign to prevent underage smoking as well as punish those retailers who sells cigarettes to minors, kicks off in Eastern Carolina Thursday. The "Red Flag" campaign started in 2005, but it was in 2000 when the Department of Motor Vehicles released a new license which color codes the background of a picture. Red indicates a person is under eighteen and can not buy tobacco products. That sends a red flag to merchants who sell cigarettes. The "Red Flag" campaign will target cigarette retailers in nine Eastern Carolina counties. The educational kick-off starts at 10:30 at the Pitt County Community schools' recreation complex.
