Program To End Illegal Immigrant Employment In Schools

A program designed to help end illegal immigrant employment will soon be used throughout all state public schools. Beginning March 1st, all North Carolina public schools will use a free on line system to check employee citizenship. The verification program is operated by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Through the program, any employee found ineligible to work in the U.S. is first red-flagged and then given eight days to resolve the issue with the Federal Government or be terminated. Teresa Byrum from Pitt County schools says her department will use the program. Byrum says the verification program will only be used on new hires. The program will be used by all state agencies, universities and offices.
