A vote at a Pitt County commissioners meeting this week prompted the board to call a special meeting Friday. The commissioners announced a vote earlier this week was illegal and it was taken off the books. That vote dealt with the collection process for past due bills on emergency medical services. The vote on February 19 was to reverse the board's original decision to implement aggressive collections. The Monday vote passed five to four, but it was later learned it actually needed a two-thirds majority to override the original vote. Commissioners say there's two-million dollars in uncollected debt for EMS.
