60-Year-Old Greenville Hardware Store To Close

One of the few old-time hardware stores still around will close up shop next month.

Van's Hardware in Greenville has been in business for 60 years.

Van Everett and his wife have owned the store for the past 30 years. Everett's parents started the business and also had if for 30 years, naming it after him.

Everett says he and his wife have been looking to retire for a while. He says he'll miss the customers most of all and knows they'll miss Van's Hardware, too. Everett says, "The word 'good service' is hard to come by, it's hard to keep. But, we've earned it."

Originally, Van's Hardware was located on Greene Street, but was re-located to Highway 33 after Hurricane Floyd.

Everett says if April comes around and they still have a significant amount of merchandise left, they may hold an auction for the remaining items.
