Easley, Officials Give Up Contributions From Chiropractors

Governor Easley and three other elected officials are giving up money contributed to their campaigns by three chiropractors named in the cases against former House Speaker Jim Black.

Refund and charity checks were being cut within 24 hours of state court testimony identifying the chiropractors, turning the campaign donations into tainted money.

The Charlotte Observer reports that Lieutenant Governor Beverly Perdue is sending money back to the chiropractor who donated it.

Easley, Attorney General Roy Cooper and Senate President Pro Tem Marc Basnight are giving their chiropractor money to charity.

Attorneys representing the chiropractors say their clients didn't know they were breaking the law.

Black pleaded guilty in federal court last week to accepting illegal payments from three chiropractors who sought legislation favorable to their profession.
