The North Carolina Bar Association says a Windsor attorney can no longer practice law. The state bar association, which is the state agency responsible for regulating the practice of law in North Carolina, disbarred Teresa L. Smallwood for what it calls, "misappropriating entrusted funds." Documents filed by the association's disciplinary hearing commission show Smallwood, "knowingly and willfully converted and embezzled over $122,000 from a former law partner. Those documents also accuse Smallwood of pocketing over $33,000 from a personal injury case her law firm represented. The bar association ordered Smallwood to surrender her license. The law does allow Smallwood to file an appeal.
