Almost one year since Spirit Aerosystems broke ground at the Global Transpark, progress on the new facility is on schedule to open by end of 2010.

The five hundred thousand square foot facility sits on 304 acres of land. It will be the anchor site for the Global Transpark, in Kinston.

Spirit will construct the center fuselage of the newest airbus 350 X-W-B. While the company promises to employ close to a thousand people once they've opened, they've already been a boost to the economy.

Spirit specializes in constructing the one of kind, airbus 350, which is a new family of mid-size wide body airlines that should roll out in 2013.

Lynn this job was in the making before obonga got in office.I helped Barnhill move the sand around for the foundation starting back in november and ended back in march.I have been laid off since cant find a job anywhere.Yes it is good for Kinston but it will not boost eastern N.C. economy.I live in Tyrell county and there is no growth around this area at all.The pay scale is to small to even think about moving. While 1000 new jobs is good for Kinston, what about the tens of thousands like me in these tiny little towns that cant afford to move to where jobs are.Guess we are stuck in the gutter.By the way Barnhill finally decided after three weeks of 14 hour plus days with no lunch break no break at all and an ONE HOUR AND THIRTY FIVE MINUTE RIDE to the job and the same back home to put us up in a motel.GOOD FOR KINSTON.

I am glad to finally hear something good happening in eastern NC. We certainly could use a boost to the economy...1000 new jobs...yeah!
