The Highway Patrol has released the name of the dirt bike rider killed in a crash Monday night.
First Sgt. M.A. Williams tells WITN the crash killed 47-year-old Gary Carrow of Grimesland.
The crash was reported at 7:40 p.m. Monday on Galloway Road near Grimesland in Pitt County.
First Sgt. Williams says Carrow was going about the speed limit, but he was riding on the shoulder. The posted speed limit was too fast for driving on the shoulder, Williams said. Carrow lost control of his dirt bike and ran into a line of trees.
Williams said Carrow was also not wearing a helmet, and troopers suspect alcohol was involved in the crash.
