Labor Day was not so good for two whales and several turtles that washed ashore and died on the Outer Banks.
A 14-foot false killer whale, which is rare in North Carolina, washed up on the beach at South Nags Head on Saturday. That's according to the Virginian-Pilot, which reports a 30-foot humpback whale was found badly decomposed Tuesday at Southern Shores.
Officials say the bad weather probably contributed to the stranding of the whales, along with ten sea turtles. Only one of the turtles in all, survived. Several agencies are investigating.
