They defied the odds and overcame obstacles. They were the African American's of the late 1700's in the Craven County town of New Bern. In celebration of Black History month, we found that prominent and wealthy African Americans owned many of the homes along Pollock, Johnson, and Bern streets. They were doctors, lawyers and business owners. And what makes their story especially unique is the fact that many of these people were freed slaves, who strived and worked for their freedom. You can learn more about the homes on the New Bern African American tour. Call 252-514-4935 for more information.
