A couple in Bath in Beaufort County has some remarkable winter guests. Brown Pelicans have moved in with Geneva and C.M. Woolard, who have been feeding about 15 pelicans at their home since early January. Each week the Woolard's buy an entire flat of shad, which is usually used for crab bait. The Woolards, put on protective gloves and head out to their pelican-lined pier to serve the birds breakfast at about 9:00 A.M. The Woolards say this is by far the largest group of pelicans they've hosted in the past 40 years. They say they'll miss their winter guests when they leave, but are looking forward to the birds' possible return next year.
