Giant Cranes Being Brought Up River To Wilmington

The Cape Fear River has been closed to traffic today while a ship carrying four huge new cranes for the Wilmington port makes its way up the shipping channel.

The 100-foot cranes will allow larger container ships to call at the port. The cranes cost 33 million dollars.

The 788-foot ship hauling the cranes is so large that it couldn't fit through the Panama Canal and had to travel around South American from the manufacturer in China.

Officials say the cranes should arrive later today on a journey that started in December.
