North Carolina's governor told law students in New York last month that Durham District Attorney Mike Nifong broke a promise when he ran for a full term after being appointed to fill a vacancy.
The News and Observer of Raleigh reports today that Easley told the law students the appointment was one of the poorest he has made.
The News & Observer obtained a recording of the speech from the university's spokesman.
Nifong was the prosecutor of the Duke lacrosse assault case, but has handed it over to the state attorney general. Easley says Nifong had done a poor job with the case, in which three lacrosse players vigorously deny any guilt.
