Funeral services are scheduled
Saturday for a Montana man who was killed in a helicopter crash in
Iraq while working as a private security contractor for Blackwater
U-S-A based in Currituck County.
Casey Casavant was working for Moyock-based Blackwater at the
time of his death, but will have a military funeral because he was
a U-S Army Ranger and a member of the Air National Guard in both
Vermont and Montana.
Casavant and four other Blackwater consultants died on January
23rd as they attempted to protect a U-S Embassy ground convoy that
had come under heavy fire in a dangerous Sunni neighborhood in
The helicopter apparently clipped some electrical wires before
it crashed. It was not clear if the helicopter was shot down, or
crashed because it hit the power lines during an evasive maneuver.
