The Winter Blues May Be Dismissed By Doctors

New research shows people who suffer from seasonal affective disorder may be overlooked by their physician, even though "SAD" is considered a subtype of major depression. A study shows the condition is often misdiagnosed because it is masked by other illnesses like attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and alcoholism. Experts say it’s important to remember all the symptoms of SAD like lack of energy, increased need for sleep, a craving for sweets and weight gain. There are various treatments for the disorder, such as light therapy, behavior therapy and medication.
