Authorities say a 28-year-old woman died over the weekend while in custody at a jail in Morganton.
Officials connected to the Burke-Catawba District Confinement Facility aren't commenting on what killed Heather Renae Fredell. The 28-year-old was arrested on Saturday on misdemeanor charges and died about six hours after she was arrested.
Fredell was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and simple possession of marijuana on Saturday, as well as several outstanding warrants.
Police say the arrest report showed no signs of any visible medical problems.
The facility is run jointly by the sheriff's offices in both counties for suspects with pending cases. Both counties each have one other jail.
