Gas really is under $2.00 in some spots of Eastern Carolina. It's a $1.99 for a gallon of regular unleaded at the Save-More convenience store on 15th Street in Washington in Beaufort County. Folks at the store tell us the cheaper price per barrel of oil is helping lower costs, as is their commitment to have the cheapest gas in the area. The Trade Mart nearby on 15th Street in Washington also had gas at a $1.99, as did stations in Elizabeth City and Tarboro. Most everywhere else we checked in Washington and across Eastern Carolina ranged from $2.00 to about $2.20. The statewide average right now is $2.12 a gallon for regular unleaded.
