It took two days to select a jury in the PETA trial, and Wednesday morning opening arguments got underway. Ahoskie Police in Hertford County say they discovered Adria Hinkle and Andrew Cook dumping the dead bodies of 31 cats and dog in a trash bin last summer. PETA representative Kathy Guillermo admits what Hinkle and Cook did was not part of the organizations policy. Prosecutors argue PETA came to animal shelters in Bertie, Hertford and Northampton counties last year and offered to take the animals and find them new homes. The defense argues the number of animals just became too much for the pair.
