Three nominees for the General Assembly have been approved by Governor Easley and will be sworn in today when the Legislature convenes.
Local Democratic leaders chose Rocky Mount Mayor Pro Tempore Angela Bryant to replace a state House member moving to the Senate.
Bryant will represent the 7th House District, which includes portions of Halifax and Nash counties.
Bryant succeeds Representative Ed Jones of Halifax County, who was nominated last week to the Senate to replace Senator Robert Holloman, the Hertford County lawmaker who died earlier this month.
Bryant is an attorney who has taught at North Carolina Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount. She won the nomination over three other candidates.
The nomination nearly completes a shake-up among legislative seats in several northeastern counties following the deaths of Holloman and Hertford Representative Howard Hunter. Ahoskie's Annie Mobley is replacing Hunter.
