Lawmen claim they're malnourished with back and rib bones showing. It's a case unfolding near Pollocksville in Jones County. It all started with a horse seen walking out on Highway 17 in Jones County, prompting Detective Steve Thompson of the Jones County Sheriff's Department to head to a farm there. He says he found a horse that was very malnourished. The United States Equine Rescue League was called to the farm, which is owned by Susan King of Wilmington. A thorough examination of four horses on the farm determined they were underfed and needed medical attention. Thompson says King agreed to let the rescue league take two of the horses in the most severe condition, sending the other two to a private stable. As a result, officials say King will not face animal cruelly charges, and she will not be able to keep or own any horses in the future. We'll continue to keep you updated on the condition of the horses.
