A Greenville landmark may soon find a new home. The metal fire tower on Fire tower road in Greenville has stood in the same spot for decades. Now, as Greenville grows, there's talk of dismantling the structure and moving it to another location in Pitt County. Rangers with the forestry office tell us the tower will be protected as the widening project on Firetower Road forges ahead. There are only two manned fire towers left in the state. The fire tower in Greenville fell victim to budget cuts in the 1980s.
