N.C. Justice Center Gets New Executive Director

Longtime civil rights lawyer Melinda
Lawrence has been named executive director of the North Carolina
Justice Center.
The anti-poverty organization says Lawrence will begin her new
job February 5 and replace Rhonda Raney, who stepped down from the
job in July.
Lawrence has been associated with the law firm Patterson Harkavy
in Raleigh. She litigated the "Willie M." class-action lawsuit
that ultimately improved services for mentally handicapped children
and was involved in a prison lawsuit that improved conditions for
state prisoners.
