A judge has denied the request from a death row inmate to stop his scheduled execution this week. The judge dismissed Marcus Reymond Robinson's claim of new evidence and a plea that the execution process is unconstitutionally painful.
The order was entered Friday by Cumberland County Superior Court Judge E. Lynn Johnson, who presided over the original trial in 1994.
Robinson is scheduled to be executed by injection at 2 a.m. Friday. He was sentenced to death for the June 1991 robbery and shotgun killing of Erik Tornblom, 17, of Fayetteville.
