Investigators in Greenville say the Unity Free Will Baptist Church was one of two churches that fell victim to arson on January 13th, and it incurred about 40 thousand dollars in damage. Only a week after a January 13th fire ravaged a section of the church, the congregation gathered in prayer and song. Investigators say the fire was the result of arson, but, regardless of the cause, Pastor Jeff Manning says the experience reminds him that the things of this world are only temporary.
Manning is quick to note, however, the positive in the situation. The rebuilt wing will actually be better than it was before the fire. In a few weeks, fresh paint will dry and new carpet will be down in the reconstructed wing. He says along with the reconstruction, the church will also make needed improvements to its security system.
