Teacher Pleads Guilty To Indecent Liberties

The attorney for a former private school
teacher says his client has pleaded guilty to taking indecent
liberties with a student.
Janet Klatt of Charlotte received a suspended sentence of six to
eight months in prison after entering an Alford plea, in which she
acknowledges that the evidence would likely lead to a conviction,
but doesn't acknowledge guilt. The plea is treated as a guilty plea
for sentencing purposes.
Klatt must be evaluated for counseling and not have any contact
with the student or his family. She also has to provide the court
with a D-N-A sample.
The 44-year-old Klatt was fired from Cannon School in Concord in
early May after she and a 16-year-old boy attended a field trip to
Raleigh in April. She was charged by Raleigh police with a sex
offense against a child. She was later charged with a sex offense
in Cabarrus County, the result of an incident police say happened
in a Concord restaurant parking lot sometime after the Raleigh
field trip.
