Three Officers At NC Marines Bases To Be Generals

The Defense Department says three Marine colonels based in North Carolina have been nominated for promotion to the rank of brigadier general.

The colonels were among eleven nominations by President Bush.

The North Carolina nominees included Colonel Ron Johnson, commanding officer of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit at Camp Lejeune. Johnson's unit helped rescue stranded Americans from Lebanon this summer during fighting between Israel and Hezbollah.

Also nominated were Colonel David Berger, the commander of the 8th Marine Regiment, and Colonel Mark Clark, the commanding officer of V-M-M-T-204.
