People who sell firewood are taking a hit on two sides this winter. Warmer temperatures and lower natural gas prices have caused a slowdown in sales.
One Triangle-area firewood dealer is on pace to sell 200 cords this winter, or about half of what is normally sells when winter is colder.
At this time of year, at least 60 small truckloads of firewood have usually passed through the gates at the State Farmers Market. Manager Ronnie Best says only 20 truckloads have come through so far.
