Burned items from Memorial Baptist as well as this church, Unity Free Will Baptist on 14th in Greenville, have been sent to the state crime lab in Raleigh for tests. Both fires happened within one hour Saturday night. Officials tell us a portion of the rear section of Unity Free Will Baptist, where classrooms are located, was burning when they got on the scene. What's left is a melted, charred mess. Plastic chairs now look like metal frames with ribbons of plastic, while textbooks used to teach children are frayed fragments. Despite it all, Senior Pastor Jeff Manning says his church remains encouraged. Pastor Manning tells us restoration begins Tuesday and some church members who do contracting for a living will lend their services. There's no word yet on a damage estimate.
