Authorities in Greenville are working to sort through two church fires and one church break-in, all of which officials say occurred within an hour of one one another.
Fire Chief Mike Burton said firefighters responded to a fire call at Memorial Baptist Church on Greenville Boulevard just after 10:30 p.m. Saturday night.
Burton said just an hour later, firefighters responded to a second fire at Unity Free Will Baptist church on 14th Street, less than a mile from the one at Memorial Baptist.
In between the two fire calls, the burglar alarm at Oakmont Baptist Church on Red Banks Road sounded. Officials confirm there was a break-in there.
Authorities say the fires at both churches are being treated as crime scenes. Chief Burton said the investigation into the fire at Unity Free Will Baptist is complete and puts the damages between $30,000 and $40,000.
The investigation into what sparked the fire at Memorial Baptist is still ongoing. Damage is extensive.
