North Carolina's senior U.S. senator wants the Department of Veterans Affairs to provide health care to those who were exposed to contaminated water at the Marines' Camp Lejeune.
Sen. Richard Burr introduced the "Caring for Camp Lejeune Veterans Act of 2009" Tuesday. It would allow any veteran or family member who was based at Camp Lejuene between the 1950s and 1985 and suffers from adverse health effects to receive health care at a VA facility.
Health officials think that as many as 1 million people may have been exposed to water contaminated by dry cleaning solvents and chemicals.
