This case was a piece of cake for the Sylva Police Department. A spokeswoman for the department says two men were arrested shortly after a sergeant found that the glass front door of the police department had been broken and cake had been smeared on the building.
Authorities also discovered a U-S flag and a flagpole also were missing from Saturday morning's break-in.
Cake crumbs starting in front of the police department led to a cake box lid several blocks away. Investigators then found out that two men had left a birthday party at a restaurant and taken the store-bought sheet cake with them. One detective says when the suspects were found, they were both wearing icing that matched the cake icing found at the police department.
One of the two suspects is free on bond. Both suspects are due in court on February 6th.
