Woman Held Without Bond In NCCU Student"s Death

A judge has ruled that an emergency dispatcher charged with murder in the death of a college student will be held without bond.

Shannon Elizabeth Crawley was arrested Tuesday and charged with the murder of North Carolina Central University student Denita Monique Smith.

Crawley said nothing during her first appearance hearing yesterday in Durham District Court.

Smith's body was found at the bottom of a stairwell a week ago at Campus Crossings Apartments, which were leased by the university. Police say she had been shot.

Crawley was a 9-1-1 dispatcher in Greensboro. Officials say Smith's fiance, Greensboro police officer Jermeir Jackson-Stroud, lived in the same neighborhood as Crawley.

Crawley's attorney wouldn't comment after the hearing.
