The driver of a tanker that spilled nearly 6,000 gallons of gasoline on Highway 70 earlier this week has been charged by highway patrol. Troopers charged 53 year-old William Lewis of Beaufort with reckless driving in the accident on the border of Jones and Craven counties between Dover and Cove City Monday morning. Lawmen say Lewis fell asleep at the wheel, causing the tanker he was driving to veer off the road, flip over and spill its contents. Lewis is listed in fair condition at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
