Morehead City is mourning the loss of a beloved former leader. Morehead City native William "Bill" Horton died this week at the age of 83. He was a city councilman from 1969 until 1993, when he was elected mayor and served until 1999. Horton was Morehead City's first and only African-American mayor. He was also a reverend. Those who worked with him say he left a legacy of cooperation and consensus. Horton's viewing is scheduled for Thursday, and the funeral service is Saturday.
