Jet Noise Could Scare Away Birds, Thousands Of Them

There are thousands and thousands of birds that could be scared off by jet noise. Those are the words of Wendy Stanton, a biologist at the refuge. Stanton tells us she fears if the Navy does go ahead with building an outlying landing field, then a significant amount of waterfowl could be scared off by jet noise. Stanton says in December she observed more birds than she's seen in her nine years working on the refuge. The Navy is currently working on a final draft of the environmental impact on the proposed landing field.
