A traffic nightmare in one part of Eastern Carolina Monday. A tanker carrying around 6,000 gallons of gasoline flipped on Highway 70 in Jones County, between Dover and Cove City around 6:30 in the morning. It took cleanup crews nearly twelve hours to mop up the spill, and Highway 70 was shut down in both directions. The driver was first taken to Lenoir Memorial Hospital then transported to Pitt County Memorial Hospital. Highway Patrol tells us it appears the driver ran off the road when he fell asleep. Troopers say charges are likely.
