Authorities have arrested a 17-year-old boy who they say was involved in more than 50 burglaries on Holden Beach island since mid-December.
Authorities say they think the boy used a raft to get flat-screen TVs and other electronics across the waterway to avoid police surveillance on the bridge connecting the island to the mainland.
The community is normally quiet at this time of year, and police in Holden Beach say the town averages about five burglaries a year.
Police Chief Wallace Layne says people are happy to have someone in custody.
However, authorities continue to investigate, because they think others might have been involved.
The community, located about 36 miles southwest of Wilmington,
