The North Carolina prosecutor at the heart of the Duke lacrosse case was sworn in for a new term Tuesday at a private ceremony in Durham. Mike Nifong was elected to a four-year term in November. News crews were not allowed at the event because the courthouse was not open. Nifong said he scheduled it early
so his staff could attend and get to work, not to avoid a public ceremony. Last month, Nifong dropped rape charges against three former Duke lacrosse players accused of raping an exotic dancer. The men still face charges of kidnapping and sexual offense. Nifong refused to comment on the case Tuesday or about ethics charges filed against him by the North Carolina state bar.
