Plane Crash Victims Identified

Authorities have confirmed that four family members from Shelby were the victims in a plane crash in Charlotte. Jim Chitty, his wife Kay and two sons -- 22-year-old Jay and 13-year-old Taylor -- died Sunday when the plane crashed in a Charlotte neighborhood after taking off from Dare County. Debris from the Cessna covered trees and roads and the engine was embedded in the back of one house. Federal investigators haven't yet determined the cause of the crash. The plane was on its way back to Shelby from the coastal city of Manteo on Sunday morning when it crashed about three miles north of
the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport.
