Eight convenience store owners accused of receiving stolen goods, conspiracy, and money laundering, are also accused of buying food stamp cards, called EBT cards, from low income clients. The question is, could these food stamp recipients find themselves in trouble?

Local, state and federal investigators raided the Greenville convenience stores Thursday and say the owners may have purchased the cards from the recipients for a fraction of the price and then falsified purchases and were reimbursed the full amount of the card.

According to the Pitt County Social Services Director, George Perry, the USDA has an investigative team that could find out if the card holder abused their privilege.

Perry says the recipients who sold their cards can lose their benefits for ten years or forever.

Perry says close to 20,000 people in Pitt County receive food stamps benefits, but they do not how many of them could have sold them to these store owners.

What they gonna do? Slap their hands and let them back on the street, so they can sit on their lazy tails and not work and get food stamps and then sell them for money. Yep that's exactly what they gonna do. Keep handing out to people who can work and dont hand out to the ones who need it. Makes me sick. Go to work people and work like I do!!!!

Ok but not everyone is sitting on there asses taking hand outs. My husband works 50 hours a week but only make $9 an hour, we have 2 kids, and I am going to college for accounting (never having anyone fixed that problem) We just make ends meet so I thought why not try to get food stamps but didn't think we could. We get $350 a month and it's all used on food for my family, not sold or anything else. So no not everyone is using the system sitting on their asses, some are trying to better their place in life.

I am a little confused about this whole thing. I am a stamp collector, and I am wondering whats the problem with people selling the stamps with food on em. Personally my collection needs some stamps with strawberries on them, to go with my stamps with bananas on them and the ones with oranges on them. I love stamping :D
