Defense attorneys in the Duke lacrosse sexual assault case say they plan to call a D-N-A expert hired by the state as a witness at trial. The expert, Doctor Brian Meehan, is the director of D-N-A
Security in Burlington. He testified at a hearing earlier this
month that his lab found genetic material from several unknown men
on the accuser's body and underwear. None of the D-N-A matched that
of the three lacrosse players accused of sexually assaulting a
stripper at a team party in March.
Meehan also testified that he and Nifong agreed to leave that
information out of an initial report summarizing test results.
Last week, Nifong dropped rape charges against the three
indicted players after the accuser changed her story. The men still
face charges of kidnapping and sexual offense.
Thursday, the North Carolina State Bar charged Nifong with
violating four ethics rules when speaking to reporters in the early
days of the investigation.
