It won't be wrapped, but a small community in Tarboro, Edgecombe County, will soon receive a long-awaited gift...a new church. The congregation of the Johnson Chapel Primitive Baptist Church will soon be able to return home after seven years. Floods from Hurricane Floyd destroyed the original church, and Pastor Elder Donnie Atkinson has been trying to get the church rebuilt ever since. The North Carolina Baptist Men Mission Ministries connected with Atkinson, and this week their volunteers arrived from across the state to help pour concrete and raise walls for the congregation's new home. The congregation has stayed together, worshipping in Pinetops, but it may be able to return home in as short as a few months.
