NC Ski Resorts Get Some Much-Needed Snow

North Carolina ski resorts are pleased not only to have a little snow, but also below-freezing temperatures that allow them to make snow.

An unseasonably warm December had put a damper on business. And this week is typically one of the resorts' busiest. The National Weather Service reports one to three inches of snow fell around Banner Elk on last night. The resorts say there was even more up on the mountains. Kristen Hull of Hawksnest ski resort in Seven Devils near Banner Elk says she expects business to be "pretty crazy."

Most of North Carolina's seven ski resorts are in the northwestern mountains around Banner Elk and Boone. In addition to the ski resorts, other businesses are benefiting from the change in the weather.

The manager of Alpine Ski Center in Charlotte, says he rented out between 30 and 40 sets of skis and snowboards yesterday. That's more in one day than the shop has done all season so far.
