Officials say Tuesday's rain caused a sewer to flood, spilling 5,000 gallons of untreated wastewater into a creek in Jacksonville.
A man-hole near the intersection of Ellis Boulevard and Lejeune Boulevard in Jacksonville began spilling the waste about 5:00 p.m on Wednesday afternoon, according to officials. The wastewater flowed into the Scales Creek, which runs from Jacksonville to Camp Lejeune.
Officials are continually testing water quality in the area until cleared by the state. Jacksonville got a reported 1.5 inches of rain Tuesday.
