New Bern police are investigating a traffic accident that sent three people to the hospital Thursday night.

The collision happened around 5:40 p.m., at the intersection of Hotel Drive and Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard.

Police say a gold Chevy Malibu, driven by 66-year-old Lynn Biddle, was crossing at the stop light toward Hotel Drive, when a sliver Dodge Neon traveling down MLK Jr. Boulevard struck the passenger side causing the car to spin around in the middle of the intersection.

Police say Biddle was transported to CarolinaEast Medical Center and treated.

Police say the Neon, driven by James K. Dixon, of Harker’s Island, came to a resting point in the ditch in front of the Golden Corral Restaurant.

Police say a passenger, 28-year-old Heather Nicole Walton, also of Harker’s Island, was injured, and air-lifted to Pitt Memorial Hospital.

She was treated and scheduled to be released from the hospital today.

Police say a five-year-old passenger was also transported to CarolinaEast Medical Center, treated and released. A 15-year-old riding in the Neon was not injured.

The investigation of the crash is ongoing, and police say charges are pending more interviews of witnesses.
