An update to our story on the Jasmine Trail nudist resort in Pamlico County that allows kids.

A day after our story, the pictures on the campground website showing naked kids have been removed.

Pamlico County District Attorney Scott Thomas said his office and the FBI are both looking at the campground and the website.

WITN started looking into Jasmine Trail after a school psychologist, whose interests include naturism and social nudism, and whose online profile includes Jasmine Trail, was arrested and charged with taking nude photos of a boy.

You can read more about that on my news blog.

ORIGINAL STORY:

District Attorney Scott Thomas says his office and the F.B.I are looking into a Pamlico County campground where kids are naked with adults, and the campground's website that shows pictures of naked kids.

Officials with the Jasmine Trail Nudist Campground near Grantsboro refused an on camera interview. They referred us to the American Association for Nude Recreation, of which the campground is a member.

American Association for Nude Recreation spokeswoman, Carolyn Hawkins, says there is nothing inappropriate, lewd, sexual, or perverted about what's going on. "Having a child at a nudist resort...It's just one of the, in my opinion, one of the greatest things that I've ever done in my life. My children, my grandchildren, my great grandchildren are all nudists."

Thomas says his office is looking into whether any state laws like indecent exposure or exploitation are being broken. He's also asked the FBI to take a look at the Jasmine Trail website and advertisements to see if any federal laws are being violated.

Another big concern is the possibility that places like Jasmine Trail could attract pedophiles. Thomas says, "When you have children involved and children being exposed to other adults and certainly other adults not even related and they're there with no clothes on it certainly, in my mind, raises a security issue and safety issue for the child."

Hawkins says all AANR resorts are safe and that procedures are in place to protect kids and adults, but wouldn't go into detail saying, "We do have a screening process and I don't want to reveal something that's confidential. Each club has its own screening process and I don't always know what that process is at each individual club."

While it is the job of the Department of Social Services to, in part, look after the well being of children, Pamlico County Human Services, or D.S.S. director, Bob Johnson, says Jasmine Trail has remained off the radar with no complaints. But what about kids who may not want to be there and are reluctant to speak out against their parents? Johnson says, "We would have to look at the area from the standpoint of neglect and I think it would be a very easy case to prove."

Thomas says he intends to ask state lawmakers and consult with the Attorney General's office on legislation that would place an age restriction on nudist facilities in North Carolina.

Nudists disagree with legislation that would keep minors out of nudist resorts. Hawkins says, "I think that when you have a family club and you have a family that families should be able to raise their children the way they want to."

The subject of what the need to be naked around kids is the part that is totally irrelevant; it has absolutely nothing to do with need. It is a lifestyle choice, and every nudist resort/venue always allows for the decision to be made by the person. It is such a sign of ignorance when you comment negatively on something you have no idea about nor take any steps to properly educate yourself about. Those of you who are so quick to judge should drag your butts off the couch and go and live and experience, and stop jumping on bandwagons spouting rhetoric in which you can not intelligently even argue.

NakedTruth,Kelly and any other anti-nudists are entitled to their opinion, but to say kids and adults nude together is "just wrong" doesn't make sense. In order to have a valid argument you really need to experience nudism first. To you and many others nudity and sex is the same, so seeing a child nude is the same as having sex with them. Sorry but your argument is baloney, as anyone who has actually been to a nudist resort knows. No child has ever been harmed just by someone looking at them while nude. Yes,pedophiles may be at nude resorts, but the chance of ACTUAL abuse is very remote. I went to a nudist resort in CA and there was an 8 year old girl swimming and walking around the pool nude. She was there with her parents and was perfectly happy. Was everyone there being perverted or abusive? Are Amazon tribes all "sickos" because they live nude? Do you see a nude child as a sexual object, NakedTruth? Nudists do not. BTW, "society" used to think the world was flat too. Grow up.

Hey guys what's the argument.Been to nudist groups before and I loved it.Also have nudist friends.Honestly we were never screened.Anyone that has never been should go.It is great, but don't expect to get not get looked at and the nudist people. They do have the same problems the religious folks do,likethe guys do respond with occasional display of masculinity. All my friends that have been to nude beaches and groups and camp grounds all have stories to tell. And they have "no guilt" about their unfulfilled imaginations.I cannot imagine why any guy wouldn't want to go at least one time. And guess what guys,if you are a good outstanding citizen they can't keep you out.You don't have to sit across the room and wonder if John Doe's wife has any panties on.
