While many Americans are waiting in line to buy gifts this season, many more children, countrywide are waiting to be adopted. According to the Department of Social Services, over 10,000 children in just North Carolina alone are in foster care waiting to be adopted. And sadly, most of those children are older kids or teenagers. We spoke with one Eastern Carolina mother who decided to adopt a teenager instead of a baby, despite the added challenges. Laura Jackson and her husband decided to adopt their fifteen year old daughter after three years of foster care. They say adopting a teen is a great chance to make an impact on a young adult's life.
