A lab on Tuesday confirmed that a Grey fox spotted in New Bern had rabies.

The fox was spotted in the Taberna area off Highway 70 east.

It was spotted by a resident at the intersection of Lagona and Emmens Road.

Barbara Wagoner says she called police when she noticed that the animal in her yard was a fox and showed visual signs of sickness. No other cases of potentially sick animals have been reported.

Wagoner says her biggest concern was the safety of children in the neighborhood and her dog Sam. A rabies vaccine clinic will be held next week in Craven County.

There is a dead fox on the side of Smaw Road in Washington. I sure hope it did not have rabies.
